What Artistes & Some Record Labels Need To Know About Internet Radio and Its Advantages

My name is Oluwafemi Lawal aka Femi.Megapoints. I'm a music business consultant and double as director of A&R for 2Digits Record,Nigeria's 1st independent digital record label as well as being a publicist.

Well, it's no secret that the music business has totally changed in the last few years, since most business around the world today has started operating from the internet.

By God grace i am a co-founder of Mega Points International(Africa's Independent A&R/Promotion Company),MD Music2Deal Nigeria(www.music2deal.com) and i so much believe in the power of the internet. My publication "The Music Industry Newsletter", a free 100,000 copies publication focusing on the business side of music also preaches a lots on different advantages the internet has to offer.

I remember years back, artistes don't really believe in online promotion, when i tell artistes or labels about internet promotion they will say ; bros, it can't work here. Now it's one of the most powerful means of breaking songs.

The internet has now taken over, yes we are in the digital age and many things are happening and changes are taking place. I applaud this development because it has given birth to many new innovative ideas and technology advancement.

Don't get left behind because many things is happening. Below is an overview of the whole process about web radio promotion and it opportunities. Take your time to go through this and join the league of those major celebrated artists you've always dream to be like or more than.

Stop Paying Much To Get Your Song Play on Radio If Can't Afford It,Use Digital Music Promotion As A Supportive Option.

Do you know millions listen to Internet radio every second using not only computer audio player, but also on a wide variety of other devices, including iPhones, Blackberrys and Windows smartphones via mobile apps.

Major musicians lead this evolution of Internet promotion and music sales, wise up and join the league now. Have you asked yourself the question, why is my song not as big as these major artistes but i promote on the internet too? Yes you promote on the internet but how are you promoting your song online matters. Its beyond just featuring your song on music blogs or download portals. Many of you artistes ignored the power of internet radio. I have clients in the past that have get played on international radio stations from just getting on web radio and making rotation.

Believe it now, web radio is your gateway to millions of dedicated music fans cross the globe. With over 500 Nigerian owned web radio stations streaming live on the internet across the globe and via mobile apps. Don"t Get Left Behind, it"s a matter of choice.

With 40% of internet radio stations now operating with iPhone,Blackberry and Android phone Apps streaming supported on many other mobile devices you can be sure your song will also get it way into million of music fans mobile phone via internet radio station with mobile apps and streaming supports .

More About Internet Radio :
Internet being reachable to different places in the world, so does Internet radio. It has expanded enormously with an estimated 15,000 stations currently available, including many traditional FM /AM simulcasting their content over the Internet. It is estimated that the number of people listening to Internet radio will grow 200% to 158.5 million by 2014.

A Little Perspective on Internet Radio
Imagine a Internet radio station with an averages 2000 visitors per hour, 24 hours per day, the station will be bringing in almost 1.5 MILLION visitors per month. Now if you figure that the average person listens to the radio for 1.5 hours per day (and that's regular radio - it"s hard to listen to Internet radio on your morning drive) Can you see the difference between the two.

We can estimate that 32,000 unique visitors frequently on web radio sites every day. If we establish a very conservative listener ratio of 1:3 (meaning the average listener listens for 1.5 hours over 3 days - ie, most don"t listen on the weekends or every single day, some do, some only listen once or twice per week, nobody listens 24 hours per day), that gives you around 96,000 regular listeners per a major internet radio station times the figure with like 2000 major internet radio stations out of the 15,000 internet stations confirmed and currently available, including many traditional FM /AM simulcasting their content over the Internet like Eko fm,Beat fm & other traditional FM stations.
With the current internet radio growth, you really need to understand how much important the internet radio promotion is than just blogs placement couple with how much international major musicians and record labels including some of our major acts like Psquare,Wizkids etc that are making use of the internet to promo their materials, distribute their album and make sales with the help internet radio hype and presence aside blogs and other social media.

Believe it or not, currently across Europe and the US the album sales on the internet is higher than the sales of album on cd offline. Have you ask yourself WHY? The answer is simple the business of music has being revolutionized, the digital age is taken over and only the serious music entrepreneur can compete in this era. Don't be left out, join the league now.

I will be available to help anyone who need help with getting their materials on web radio. I can refer you to web radio that seeks new songs every day to play. Quick note to DJs, there are many web radio seeking djs to take up mixshow slots on their stations. You can get in touch let me connect you. I am also working out something for every interested djs to join the Hype Blast DJs network mixshows dj lists. We have MusicNestRadio supporting already on this.

To all independent artistes and labels, don't miss my points. I am not saying promoting on radio is not good. I promote my artistes songs on radio too but my point is web radio helps a lots in getting massive exposure for your songs.

Be a good business man, act like a professional music business entrepreneur. Join the league of the major labels and artistes making music doing music. Some web radio pay royalties for playing your songs on sponsored programs.

I know what it cost to run an offline radio promotion. My advice is if you don't have much you can use few offline radio stations you can afford based on your promotional budget and support it up with online radios and other online promotional platform. There is no secret about getting famous or breaking record but using the business of music and how to do things right with proper planning.

Artiste Kcee, also known as the Okpekete master, is an artiste signed to Five Star Music. He's the second half of KcPresh, before they splitted. So far Kcee is doing well, after the release of Okpekete both the original song and the remix with Davido, he hasn't stayed calm in the music industry with the release of his past single *Give it to me* where he featured Flavour. And most recently his newly released single titled *Limpopo* which he accompanied with an exclusive video thereafter, Kcee is sure not relenting in dishing out good music and yaay he knows how to whyne lol. I see him going places and more good stuffs to come from him, he is one artist that you can bet on to deliver any time, any day. So to keep up with him on any latest development, from shows to tours and so on follow him on twitter @iam_kcee

What Happened Between Me and Uche Ogbodo' - Harrysong Issues Statement

I am forced to speak on the picture of myself and actress Uche Ogbodo being circulated around the web following queries from fans and well wishers. I was going to let it play like any other joke but I was stunned when a fan recently - should I say excited fan - attacked me verbally on a radio station where I dropped by to talk about being a part of 2face's Campus connect tour.

First, Uche Ogbodo is a very dear friend but we are not dating. She's more of a sister to me and not a lover. I believe a peck doesn't necessarily translate to an affair but I could be wrong. Maybe it is not common amongst my colleagues to own up during an affair but I can assure you that we are not an item. In all modesty, Writing hit songs for my colleagues like 'Limpopo' by KCee and Omotola Ekeinde, recording my own songs (working on a new single), still promoting my new video for 'I'm in love' remix with Olamide as well readying another video possibly for my track with Timaya would be a lot to combine with a relationship, at this point.

So what happened? The picture was taken on my birthday which took place at Elegushi beach late at night hence it was not complimentary (on a lighter note, I am quite a good looking man so is Uche, very good looking lady! that picture didn't do us justice) We were partying which should explain the circumstance the picture was taken.

Threesomes also don't happen at parties, a mutual friend watched on as She planted a 'peck' (quick kiss) on my lips and we giggled afterwards.
Please see it as the lighthearted activity that it was and nothing more.

My apologies to only fans who found it less pleasing and thank you for all the support.

Unto matta,
Harrysong

Don Jazzy gets his Groove Back (IDJA)

Wednesday, May 8, 2013, marks exactly one year that Michael Collins Ajereh publicly decided to chart a new course for himself with the birth of Mavin Records-home to the Mavin League. It also marks his birthday.

The last 12 months have been clouded with several can he get it right alone? Would he pull it through all by himself?

When news circulated that Don Jazzy and Dbanj had split last year it was also said that he left with all Don Jazzy’s catalogue. Of course everyone thought that would be the end of him.

And considering the obvious fact that the last one year has become symbolic as one of the most trying periods for the Nigerian entertainment industry, it has also become a symbolic year in the life of the man who is now known and well referred to as Don Jazzy.

Not many had given him the slightest opportunity to prove his worth-accusations were flying around-but Don Jazzy remained resolute, determined and undeterred in his decision to break even with the MAVINS. Don Jazzy has successfully remained relevant, steadfastly cooking up beats-as much as he can, churning out productions that has left the music industry in a state of frenzy. He has bounced back from scratch!

Has he succeeded? That varies largely on your definition of success but with over a dozen hit productions this year-Take Banana, Oma Ga, Amarachi, Goody Bag, Kick, Without my heart, Rotate, Lady Don Dada- in the last one year, one can only pat the beefy producer on the back for daring to dare and standout! He has bounced back from scratch!

From Tiwa Savage to Wande Coal, D’Prince and Dr. Sid, it’s obvious that Don Jazzy has structured a way out for himself and his league of Mavins.

However, only few people want to understand the obvious fact that the 31 year old music producer, whose wizardry has become one of the most talked about revolutions in the Nigerian music industry, remains the regular man who can be caught tweeting on popular micro-blogging network site, Twitter, as Don Jazzy, or the young man that has decided to give back to that major society that has consistently supported him. Without attracting undue possession, the term, IDJA (It’s Don Jazzy Again) became one of Nigeria’s most trending and popular 4-letter word on Twitter.

Although mystery remains his strongest point, Don Jazzy, has left Nigerians-in Nigeria and its diaspora- wondering who and where he hails from.

Michael Collins Ajereh was born on November 26, 1982.A Nigerian Multi award-winning record producer, singer-songwriter, musician, former CEO of Nigerian record label Mo' Hits Records founded in 2004 and current CEO of the Mavin Records label which he founded in May 2012

In his kitty, Don Jazzy prides himself as a Voice, Fashion and Social Networking guru, Mo'Hits/ G.O.O.D. Music producer, Samsung Deal, Mavin Records, Mavin League, Loya milk endorsement and an awesome production discography record.

Michael had always had a flair for music, singing and playing the drums from the age of 4. He developed a passion for the bass guitar at the age of 12, He went on to study Business Management at the Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma in Edo stat before he moved to London in the United Kingdom in 2000 after his uncle invited him to come play the drums for the neighborhood Church.

Various odd jobs followed including working at McDonalds and as a security guard. Already imbued with an intimate knowledge of traditional and percussion instruments, Don Jazzy further built on his musical knowledge during his UK stint. Finding fellow kindred spirits in the likes of Solek, JJC, The 419 squad and D’Banj, the gang would spend unrelenting hours practicing, recording and performing different types of music.

Jazzy’s appetite for a full-time career in music could no longer be satiated when, in 2004, he partnered with D’Banj to set up the Mo' Hits label. Within two years, the prolific producer had wrapped up two albums (No Long Thing and Rundown/Funk You Up) with his former Mo' Hits partner and was working on a third, Curriculum Vitae. By this time, he had already started becoming a household name with the trademark intro – It’s Don Jazzy Again!

In 2008 there were further production credits for the best selling album of that year; The Entertainer Don Jazzy repeated the trick with Wande Coal’s Mushin 2 MoHits, an album that was described as one of the best albums to ever come out of Nigeria

Although not acknowledging himself as a recording artist, he is responsible for doing most Background Vocals for Artists he produces for and sometimes does complete verses. His musical dexterity can be heard through his beats and well calculated vocals he assists to the likes of D'Banj, Sauce Kid, Dr SID, Ikechukwu, Kween, D'Prince and even Jay-Z and Kanye West on their Watch The Throne track Lift Off, featuring Beyoncé.

In 2011 his talents got him noticed by Kanye West who signed him up as a producer on his GOOD Music label. With over a 100 production tracks to his name, the understated genius has worked with a host of local and international celebrities. In spite of his whirlwind superstardom, Don Jazzy has never forgotten his humble beginnings.

On the wake of the split up of Mohits, Samsung unveiled their "Built for Africa" products and Don Jazzy was signed on as their spokes person.

On May 8 2012, Don Jazzy said, “The way forward now is to make sure I keep bringing you guys more of the beautiful music you all love to dance to,” He kept his promise of a new beginning, as he announced the birth of Mavin Records.

The multiple award winning producer and philanthropist has activated several fans with several music productions and hit songs leaving It’s Don Jazzy Again, IDJA on the lips of every one that matters. It’s a year now and needless to say Don Jazzy the internationally acclaimed producer,Nigerian multi award winning producer, singer, song writer,CEO Mavins record label, endorsements from Samsung and Loya, philanthropist is in it to win it and he is here to stay! Happy Birthday IDJA!

Inferior Tonto Dikeh Prooving Superior by D Black

Many things have been said about Tonto Dikeh recently, especially about
her singing ability. As we all know Tonto Dikeh, who got famous on TV
screen, as an actress has dabbed into singing; this development has
created a lot of controversies for her.
Her sudden jump into music rather than continue her acting points to a
simple fact that she is just trying to remain relevant. She is
interested in nothing but fame (and perhaps controversies). Recently, a
lot of people’s complaints include her in ability to sing reasonable
songs but whack songs she sings, which went viral on the internet due to
the unbelievable and unimaginable tones and rhythms packed into what she
called her songs. He releases (songs) has gone beyond not interesting
but became the first ear infectious song (otherwise known as
Tontodefect). LOL
Late last year Tonto Diken drop her debut single HI + iTZova Feat Snypa
which was also premiere on outof9ja.com and many notable blog site in
Nigeria and around the globe. The debut single cause a lot of uproar in
the media, although, a lot of people voices were mute but they took to
social network media such as twitter, facebook and the rest to show
their anger at what they considered ear-damaging song.
The No Nonsense Diva, didn’t let the criticism put her off, without
prelude she threw Jeje on our faces, produce by Jospo and Mix by a close
family friend Indomix. As if Jeje was not enough she was all and again
in studio session with some notable artists and in no time she featured
the one and only Akpako master of the industry Terry G on Crazically
Fit. This is where I started to think to myself; “here we go again”. I
said to myself; “the craziest Man in the music industry and the
Kolomental Diva in the movie industry came out with something called
Crazically Fit, how could this be real? What a match and what concept do
they join together?” I couldn’t wait to listen to the song. Listen and
watching the video, I wasn’t disappointed, rather my instinct told me
that Tonto Diken is not here to play she is here to tell us what we
don’t know.
In February when Tonto Diken drop Jeje Artwork through her twitter
account, which was premiere on 1st March, news went viral that she was
ready to come out once again with another whack song, which I couldn’t
but also agreed. In spite of the danger to my ears, I was actually ready
anyway as a blogger to post the song and probably listen to it when it
was finally released. While listening, I notice the beat was produced
and Mixed by one of the best in the country, Jospo and Idomix
respectively. That was when I started thinking that yes this Diva means
business and I think she’s getting there.
Early this month Tonto was at AY life show, a show she got a round of
applause from more than thousands people at the end of her performance,
if that’s not her first stage performance but the noticeable one, she
sang all her singles, including Jeje which was mere response to those
who have being criticizing her for her musical talent. I think in all,
this Tonto is improving and telling us what she can do, I read an
article some weeks back where the writer said ‘‘Tonto Dikeh must be
stopped”. No way! I’m sorry to say this but she can’t be stopped, Tonto
Is Famous, She has everything a list Nigerian artist has, she might not
be good as some of them but she has what its required to be a top artist
and she’s proofing this.
Famous – she’s already famous among the household because of her acting
skill.
Controversial – Yes she is, media and we blogger won’t let her go, we
post her tweet if she insult anyone and this are what keeping people
like Tonto on the spotlight.
She has once said that Don Baba J, [Don Jazzy] popular Nigeria producer
and CEO Marvin Records is her ex, if this is true or not or just public
stunt but there are connection in between them and if she want advice
how to improve her music career people like Don Jazzy can help her.
Yesterday, Don Jazzy also agree with me; tweeted Tonto ”Talent is a raw
material,yhu have processed it madam!”
